Fan Follow Friday puts the spotlight weekly on one of my readers, as they share their favorite ballparks and baseball memories. Hope you enjoy hearing their stories!! This week we check in with Drew Zuhosky, a Roll Triber:
Name: Drew Zuhosky
Age: 22 years old
Hometown: Masury, Ohio
Favorite Team: Cleveland Indians, Los Angeles Dodgers
How did you get into baseball?:
My father had a baseball background. He played both baseball AND football growing up, and almost made it into the professional ranks. Because of this, he has an extensive knowledge of the game and has passed it on to me, along with the fine art of heckling the umpires.
This one is actually a tie between Eastwood Field in Niles, OH (home of the Indians’ Class-A short season affiliate, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, and Progressive Field (it’s not The Jake anymore, Cleveland!) I give Progressive an edge because of its design and toothbrush lights. Very cool design.
Least favorite ballpark:
I’d have to say PNC Park, mainly because of its design. Looks too archaic for a 21st century baseball stadium. The design was executed with no callbacks to that of Three Rivers Stadium.
Top ballpark memory:
Going to Three Rivers Stadium to see the Indians vs. the Pirates two days after my 8th birthday. It was my first MLB game, and although I sweated profusely and the Indians lost that day, I had a great time. It was a day I’ll remember all the way to the grave.
Advice for fans visiting your home ballpark:
Simply this: Buy tickets early. Especially if the Tribe are contending, you’ll want to purchase your tickets in advance. You don’t want to be stuck having to purchase your tickets as part of the walk-up crowd on the day or night of the ballgame.
